Privacy Policy

How BuddyGuard handles your information.
Effective date: May 2026

Effective date

This Privacy Policy is effective as of May 2026 and applies to your use of BuddyGuard. By creating an account or using the app, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this policy.

What we collect

BuddyGuard collects: account data (name, email, phone number), your Buddy's phone number, your app and website blocking preferences, your daily Buddy health score, streak history, achievement progress, subscription status, support form submissions, and device permissions you grant such as Screen Time and notifications.

Screen Time selections are handled by Apple's privacy-preserving FamilyControls framework — BuddyGuard never receives the actual names or identifiers of the apps you block.

How we use it

We use this data to operate BuddyGuard's blocking and accountability features, send approval codes to your Buddy, calculate your streaks and rewards, deliver support, and improve the product. We process this data on the legal bases of performing our contract with you, your consent, and our legitimate interest in operating and improving the service.

How it is stored

Account data and history are stored securely with industry-standard encryption in transit and at rest. Payment processing is handled by Apple, Google, or third-party processors. BuddyGuard does not store your credit card details.

Third-party services

BuddyGuard relies on trusted providers to operate, including Apple (App Store, Screen Time, push notifications), our authentication and database provider, our subscription management provider, and an SMS provider used to deliver Buddy approval codes. These providers process data only as needed to provide their service and under their own privacy terms.

Data retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete or anonymize your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain certain records (for example, transaction records) by law.

Sharing with your Buddy

BuddyGuard only shares the necessary access request information with your Buddy. You control whether the app or website name is visible to your Buddy. If privacy mode is enabled, your Buddy only sees that access was requested, not the app or site name.

We do not sell your data

BuddyGuard does not sell or share your personal data for advertising, nor do we sell personal information as defined by the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA).

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, export, restrict, or delete your personal data, and to withdraw consent (GDPR, UK GDPR, CCPA/CPRA, and similar laws). You can exercise these rights from Settings or by emailing dev@buddyguardblocker.com. We will not discriminate against you for exercising your rights.

Children's privacy

BuddyGuard is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age of digital consent in your country). We do not knowingly collect data from children under that age. If a parent or guardian sets up BuddyGuard for a minor, they are responsible for the account and consent on the minor's behalf.

International transfers

Your data may be processed in countries other than where you live, including the United States. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses) to protect your data during these transfers.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated in the app or by email, and the "Last updated" date will be revised. Continued use after changes take effect constitutes acceptance.
